Help Protect Australia’s Citrus – Join CitrusWatch!

Published on Tuesday, 10 June 2025 at 9:19:11 AM

CitrusWatch is a national program working to protect Australia’s citrus trees from harmful pests. We bring together government, scientists, community groups, and citrus growers to keep an eye out for exotic pests through training, education, and research.

Whether citrus trees are on farms or in backyards, the program runs activities in both rural and city areas. We offer free training for growers and the public on citrus pests, biosecurity, and how to spot early signs of trouble. We also carry out risk assessments and plan how to respond to potential pest outbreaks.

At the heart of CitrusWatch is a volunteer network that helps us detect exotic citrus pests early. Each year, we send out 1,000 sticky traps to volunteers across Australia.

Want to help?
It’s easy! We’ll send you everything you need:

  • A sticky trap

  • Clear instructions

  • A prepaid envelope

All you need to do is:

  1. Hang the trap on a citrus tree or a related plant (like curry leaf or Murraya).

  2. Leave it there for two weeks.

  3. Post it back to our team in Darwin for checking.

Together, we can build an early warning system that protects our citrus industry and backyard trees!
