Tiwi Islands Regional Council is the heart of community support and infrastructure on Bathurst and Melville Islands. As a lead organisation in maintaining essential community services, we are dedicated to ensuring the smooth operation of our island's infrastructure to serve our vibrant community.
The islands are home to the Tiwi people, who have a strong affiliation with their land and waterways, along with distinctive culture and language. There are school and medical facilities on the islands, with regular plane, passenger ferry and barge services operating between Darwin and the Tiwi Islands.
Role
Responsible for coordinating and skippering the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the inter-island ferry that runs between Bathurst and Melville Islands.
We provide a multiple trip daily service (weekdays and some weekends) carrying vehicles and passengers back and forth across the Apsley Strait between Wurrumiyanga and Paru.
You
You will have experience skippering a commercial ferry/vessel within the scope of a Certificate I in Maritime Operations, Coxswain Grade 2 (MAR10418).
A key to your success will be coordinating service delivery in accordance with Legislative and Council Health, Safety and Welfare procedures including compliance with AMSA certificate of survey and related inspections.
You should be committed to delivering high-quality services and ensuring compliance with legislation, to maximise value for the community.

Perks
You will receive 6-week’s annual leave per year along with an annual salary between $82,000 and $92,000 (plus superannuation), relocation assistance and accommodation.
