Lead impactful initiatives in a unique cultural setting, contributing directly to the wellbeing and development of the Tiwi Islands community

The Tiwi Islands, located 80km north of Darwin in the Arafura Sea, consist of two islands, Bathurst and Melville, covering 832sq km. Home to the Tiwi people, the islands boast a rich cultural heritage and strong community ties, supported by essential services including schools and medical facilities. Regular transport links to Darwin are available via plane, passenger ferry, and barge services.

As Manager People and Wellbeing, you will lead the development and implementation of innovative human resource and Work Health and Safety (WHS) frameworks at Tiwi Islands Regional Council. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will shape the organisational culture and capabilities to meet current and future goals. Key responsibilities include overseeing employee relations, workforce planning, organisational learning and development, performance management, and WHS initiatives across multiple Council offices.

You will provide strategic advice on human resource and WHS matters, driving initiatives to enhance employee engagement, leadership capability, and organisational performance. Managing a dedicated team, you will ensure effective delivery of Council priorities and contribute actively to improvement projects.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strategic leadership in human resources and WHS within a remote Indigenous community context. Strong capabilities in talent and change management, coupled with effective stakeholder engagement and policy development skills, are essential.

Contribute to a dynamic community-focused organisation in a stunning natural setting, leading practices that support employee wellbeing and organisational effectiveness.
