Lead meaningful projects in a culturally rich environment, enhancing community infrastructure while enjoying a fulfilling career.

The Tiwi Islands, located 80km north of Darwin in the Arafura Sea, encompass Bathurst and Melville Islands with a combined landmass of 832 square kilometres. Home to the Tiwi people, the islands boast a distinctive culture and language. Essential services, including schools and medical facilities, are available, with regular transport links to Darwin via plane, ferry, and barge.

The Manager Housing and Assets role is responsible for overseeing the Council’s infrastructure programme from strategic planning to maintenance and compliance. This includes managing assets such as roads, waste facilities, buildings, motels, and staff accommodation, along with three aerodromes. The role involves providing strategic advice, leading infrastructure projects, and managing a team of trades staff to support the remote indigenous community.

We are seeking a candidate with substantial experience in infrastructure management, ideally within local government or the private sector. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, the ability to manage change, and a commitment to innovative thinking. Experience in developing and delivering strategic infrastructure plans, along with a thorough understanding of relevant legislation and work health and safety practices, is essential.

The successful candidate will benefit from working in a unique and culturally rich environment, where they can make a significant impact on the community. The role offers the opportunity to lead diverse projects, collaborate with various stakeholders, and contribute to the strategic development of the Tiwi Islands.

This role offers a hybrid arrangement, allowing for some work to be conducted remotely or from Darwin, with regular presence in the Tiwi Islands community.
